LG has moved through several internal cartridge families as its American style and InstaView ranges have evolved. The reference confirmed for the current UK range is the ADQ73613401, sold by LG UK itself as the LT800P.
How to identify your LG fridge
The model and serial number label sits on the inside wall of the fresh food compartment, usually on the left side near the top.
Look inside the compartment for a cartridge behind a small door: if you cannot find one, check the base grille and the water line connections at the back, since not every LG range uses the same filter position.

Where LG owners go wrong
- Buying an older LG reference such as the LT700P or LT1000P for a current InstaView fridge without checking the housing shape, since LG has changed the internal filter cartridge more than once.
- Leaving the filter in place well past its interval because the fridge's water still tastes fine: taste is not a reliable signal of when a filter has stopped working.
When to change the filter
LG recommends a cartridge change every six months. On the LG ranges covered on this site, the fridge's own display or control panel will usually flag a reminder once that period is reached.

Does the LG ADQ73613401 fit older LG American style fridges?
It fits the current InstaView and GSX/GSJ ranges confirmed on this site's model page. Older LG fridges used different cartridge families such as the LT700P, and the housings are not confirmed to be interchangeable, so check your fridge's own filter compartment before ordering.
Tools, space and figures to have before you start
You do not normally need plumbing tools for an internal LG cartridge change, but you do need room to work cleanly. Empty the top shelf area enough to open the filter cover fully and to turn the cartridge without striking bottles or the door liner. Put a towel under the filter head before you unlock the cartridge, because a small amount of water can drain from the housing.

If the cartridge is the LG ADQ73613401, compare the locking end and the length of the old and new cartridges before opening any sealed packaging. Do not compare only the printed label, because older LG cartridge families can look similar when viewed from the side.
Step by step cartridge change
Turn off the ice maker first if your fridge has one. You do not usually need to shut off the household water supply for an internal cartridge, but do so if the filter head has been leaking or if the cartridge will not release cleanly. Open the filter door and support the old cartridge with one hand while turning it in the release direction shown on the fridge label. Keep the cartridge level as it comes out, since water remains inside it.
Wipe the filter head with a clean, damp cloth. Do not push tools, cotton buds or grease into the socket. Check that the old cartridge has not left a separate seal or broken plastic tab in the head. If any part is loose, remove it by hand only. Align the new cartridge with the marks on the housing, push it fully home, then rotate it until it stops. A cartridge that stops halfway is not seated, even if water starts to flow.
Run water from the dispenser in short bursts for several minutes until you have flushed 2 to 4 litres. Short bursts are better than one continuous draw if the dispenser flow is irregular, because trapped air can make the first litre spit and pause. Discard the first ice production after a filter change if the ice maker has been off or if the water line has taken in air.
Mistakes, symptoms and recovery
- If the cartridge will not turn, stop before using pliers. Press it inward by a few millimetres, keep it square to the head, then turn again. Force can crack the filter head or shear the cartridge lugs.
- If water flow is weak just after fitting, flush in 10 to 15 second pulls and wait 10 seconds between pulls. Air pockets often clear after 1 to 2 litres.
- If the dispenser does not run at all, check that the cartridge is locked to its final stop. Many LG housings close the water path unless the cartridge has reached the locked position.
- If there is a drip from the filter cover, remove the cartridge, inspect the seal face and refit it. A drip that continues after refitting means you should stop using the dispenser and check the housing before ordering another cartridge.
- If the reminder stays on, reset it only after the filter is installed and flushed. The reminder is a timer or usage counter, not a water quality test.
Do not try to cure a wrong cartridge by trimming plastic keys or adding tape around the neck. If it does not lock by hand into the housing, it is not the correct fit for that filter head. For reminder messages and general checks, see the FAQ.
Special cases before you order or refit
If the fridge has been unused for more than 2 weeks, flush more carefully after fitting a new cartridge. Use small draws and allow the water tank inside the fridge to refill between draws. If water has been shut off at the mains, open another cold tap first to clear household air before testing the fridge dispenser.
If the old cartridge is missing, do not rely on a photo of a similar fridge on a marketplace listing. Use the appliance rating label and the physical filter bay. Measure the bay opening and note the lock shape, but do not assume compatibility from length alone. A cartridge that is a few millimetres different at the locking end can fail to open the valve in the head.
If the filter is in the base grille or on the rear water line rather than inside the fresh food compartment, treat it as a different arrangement. The internal ADQ73613401 style procedure does not confirm the correct part for an external inline filter. In that case, record the fridge model, the existing filter label if present, and the water tube size before buying a replacement.
