What does not fit
DA29-00020B and DA29-00003G (both internal cartridge systems; this is an external system with no cartridge slot inside the fridge at all).
How to replace it
- Locate the filter compartment described above and turn off the fridge's water supply if your model has a shut off valve.
- Turn the old cartridge a quarter turn in the direction marked on the housing, or press the release catch, then pull it straight out.
- Check the reference printed on the old cartridge against DA29-10105J (HAFEX/EXP) before fitting the replacement, since two cartridges from the same brand can look alike but not seal the same way.
- Remove the protective cap from the new cartridge, then push it into the housing and turn it a quarter turn until it locks.
- Run 2 to 3 litres of water through the dispenser before drinking it, since new cartridges release carbon dust on their first use.
- Reset the fridge's filter indicator, usually a button held for a few seconds, so it counts down correctly to the next change.
Common mistakes
- Buying by fridge brand alone instead of checking the exact part number, which on a brand with more than one system leads to a cartridge that does not fit.
- Leaving the filter well past its change interval, which reduces flow rate and can let the carbon block become a place for bacteria to grow rather than filter them out.
- Forcing a cartridge that does not turn or push in without resistance; if it does not seat cleanly, it is very likely the wrong reference.

Tools, space and measurements before you pull the fridge out
Work with the fridge powered and cooled as normal, but isolate the water feed before you disconnect the external filter. The part of the job that causes most leaks is not the cartridge body, it is a stressed or scratched quarter inch tube at the push fit connector.
- Allow at least 60 cm of clear floor space behind the fridge so the water tube is not pulled tight while you work.
- Keep a shallow tray or towel under the old filter, since 50 to 150 ml of water can drain from the tube and filter body.
- Use a tape measure or marker pen to mark the tube before removal, so you can see whether it moves during refitting.
- Use a proper plastic tube cutter if you must trim the pipe. Scissors can flatten the tube and make the push fit seal unreliable.
- Inspect the last 20 mm of each tube end. Replace or trim any section with grooves, oval shape, tooth marks from an old fitting, or scale deposits.
Quarter inch water tube has an outside diameter of about 6.35 mm. The cut end must be square, with no burrs. If the tube has been bent sharply behind the appliance, leave a gentle loop of at least 80 mm radius rather than forcing a tight bend into the connector.
Detailed fitting procedure for an external inline filter
Pull the fridge forward slowly and watch the water tube as it moves. If the tube becomes tight after only a few centimetres, stop and feed more slack from the wall valve area before moving the appliance further.
Close the water valve, then press the dispenser for 5 to 10 seconds to reduce pressure in the line. Put a towel under both ends of the old filter. On a push fit end, hold the small collar square against the fitting and pull the tube out in a straight line. Do not lever the collar with a screwdriver, since this can nick the sealing face.
Check the arrow on the replacement filter body and align it with the direction of water flow, from the household supply towards the fridge. Push each tube fully into the connector until it stops. On many quarter inch push fit connectors this is roughly 12 to 15 mm of insertion, but the real check is that the tube cannot be pushed any further and cannot be pulled out with light hand pressure.
Open the valve by a quarter turn first and look at both joints for 30 seconds. If dry, open the valve fully, run water into a jug, and check again after 2 minutes and after the fridge has been pushed back. A joint that is dry in free air can leak when the appliance bends the tube against the wall.

Frequent faults, recovery steps and when not to force it
If water sprays when the tube is released, the valve has not shut off fully or pressure is still trapped. Close the upstream valve more firmly, operate the dispenser again, and place the tube end into a bowl before trying the connector a second time.
If a push fit joint weeps, do not wrap tape around the outside of the tube. Remove the tube, cut off a clean 10 to 15 mm section if there is enough slack, and refit it squarely. If there is not enough slack, the correct repair is to renew the line section or use a suitable extension fitted outside the fridge cavity, not to leave the tube under tension.
If the dispenser flow is weak after fitting, first check that the isolation valve is fully open and that the tube is not kinked behind the fridge. Then dispense water in several short runs of 20 to 30 seconds, with pauses between them, to move air out of the line. Air can make the flow pulse and can also make the first glasses look cloudy.
If the fridge has an internal cartridge bay or a twist lock filter head inside the fresh food compartment, stop and compare the system with the internal Samsung references. The external inline system on this page is a different layout from DA29-00020B and DA29-00003G.
Special cases behind UK installations
Some UK kitchens have the water valve in a cupboard beside the fridge, with the tube passing through a drilled hole. Check that the hole edge is smooth. A sharp chipboard edge can score the tube each time the fridge is moved, and the leak may appear at the filter even though the damage is further along the line.
If the fridge has been unused for several weeks, flush the line until the water is clear and cold before judging taste or flow. If the appliance was stored with the water connected, inspect for biofilm at the dispenser outlet and clean that area separately from the filter change.
